Haulage, courier & transport insurance with Howden
The number of deliveries being made across the UK has increased exponentially over the last decade, resulting in more and more delivery drivers out on the roads than even before. With that, the availability of insurance policies that can provide delivery transport businesses and their drivers with cover has risen too.
There are two types of insurance policies which are typically associated with this industry:
Haulage insurance
This is designed for businesses or individuals engaged in the transportation of goods, whether it's for hire and reward or the transportation of their own goods. Hauliers usually deliver across long distances in large vehicles like trucks and lorries.
Haulage insurance can also be tailored to different types of haulage operations, including general haulage, refrigerated transport, hazardous materials transport, and more.
This is specific to businesses or individuals operating courier services, typically involving multiple delivery of individual items such as parcels, packages, or goods. These deliveries are often done over shorter distances and typically using vans, cars, or motorcycles.
Courier insurance can also be further customised based on factors such as the size of the courier fleet, the types of vehicles used, and the nature of the goods being transported.
It’s important that delivery operating companies opt for either one of these insurances to have as their cover, as standard van or vehicle policies do not provide the adequate protection that’s required for these businesses to function safely. The insurance policies designed for haulage, couriering, and other transportation methods that we source, courtesy of the specialist insurers that Howden works with, typically include the following types of cover within them:
- Public Liability
- Employers’ Liability
- Goods in Transit
- Roadside assistance
- Business interruption
These types of cover are usually included in haulage, courier, and transport insurance policies as standard, but you should always check with your insurer before buying a policy from them to make sure you know what is and isn’t covered.
This is where Howden can help. As a broker we specialise in comparing policies from across the industry and can help you find a cover option that’s a good fit for your delivery business. Contact us today and we can get underway with supporting you with all your insurance requirements.
