Getting your supercar ready for summer

As the days grow longer and temperatures rise, many supercar owners eagerly anticipate taking their prized vehicles out of winter storage and back onto the open road. However, before you fire up that high-performance engine and set off on a summer drive, it’s crucial to ensure your car is fully prepared, and not just mechanically, but also from an insurance and security perspective.

Winter storage

A supercar that has been in winter storage needs a thorough inspection before hitting the road.  Perform essential maintenance checks such as:

• Battery health. If the battery has been disconnected or on a trickle charger, ensure it is holding charge properly.
• Tyre condition & pressures. Cold weather can lead to pressure loss and cracking.
• Brakes & fluids. Ensure there is no moisture buildup in the brake system and that oil, coolant, and hydraulic fluids are at optimal levels.
• Suspension & alignment. If you did take your car out over winter then potholes and winter road conditions can cause alignment issues that affect handling.

Insurance cover

Winter storage may mean your vehicle’s insurance cover has been reduced, as some owners choose laid-up policies that only protect against fire, theft, and accidental damage while the car is off the road. Before taking your supercar out, ensure that your insurance policy is fully reinstated to comprehensive coverage, including road cover.

If your insurance policy is mileage-limited, check that your estimated annual mileage aligns with your planned usage. Underestimating could leave you underinsured, while overestimating could mean paying more than necessary.

Agreed Value

Breakdown cover

If you are thinking about heading to the continent for a summer road trip, make sure your policy provides the necessary international cover, including European Breakdown cover.

Vehicle security

Supercars are prime targets for theft, and many insurers require advanced security systems to be active. Check your security is adequate & that any Tracker subscriptions are up to date - to avoid insurers excluding theft cover in the event of a claim.
