What is camera insurance?
Camera insurance helps protect one of your most prized possessions. Let’s say someone swipes your bag just before shooting a wedding. Or perhaps you drop your camera and crack the lens before your holiday. Camera insurance covers the cost of repairing or replacing your camera, helping you stay behind the lens should the unexpected happen.
Do I need camera insurance?
If you love photography and are dedicated to never missing the perfect picture, then you may want to take out camera insurance to protect your camera against a show-stopping disaster.
Cameras can be an expensive bit of kit, so whether you’re a professional photographer or a particularly keen Instagrammer, you probably won’t want to come up with the cash for a new one should yours get damaged or stolen. If this sounds like you, then you probably need camera insurance.

To make a claim, contact Protect Your Bubble (by phone or post) as soon as possible to report the claim, complete the required steps and provide the requested information (like proof of ownership). Then, pay your excess and wait for your camera to be repaired or replaced.

Is my camera covered on holiday?
Yes, Protect Your Bubble’s camera insurance covers you against theft, accidental damage and mechanical breakdown anywhere in the world. Worried you’ll leave your camera bag at an airport, or at the beach? You can even add cover for loss for an extra £1.50 per month, per camera.
What’s not covered by camera insurance?
As with most insurance policies, there are a few things that aren’t covered with Protect Your Bubble’s camera insurance. These include:
- Your excess
- Cameras over the maximum age when you buy the policy*
- Cosmetic damage which does not affect operation
- Camera loss (unless selected)
*Your first gadget needs to be under six months old, your second gadget needs to be under 12 months old and third (or more) gadget need to be under 36 months old when you purchase the policy. If you’d like to add gadgets onto your policy after the initial purchase, they’ll need to be under 12 months old.
What if I use my camera as a professional photographer?
Whether you’re a part-time amateur, or a full-time professional, Protect Your Bubble’s camera insurance provides cover for personal and business use.
Will home insurance cover my camera?
Before taking out a separate camera insurance policy, it could be worthwhile checking whether your camera is already covered under your home insurance, as some policies include this cover as standard.
However, if you do already have cover for your camera under your home insurance, it’s also important to check exactly what’s covered. You may find that your home insurance policy doesn’t provide the level of cover for your camera that you would receive with specialist gadget insurance. For example, is it covered outside of your home, or abroad if you want to take it on holiday?
