What is Grey Import Insurance?
Grey import insurance refers to a type of cover for vehicles that have been imported from another country and are not officially sold through authorised dealerships in the UK. These vehicles are often referred to as "grey imports" because they fall outside the UK’s standard distribution channels.
Grey imports are usually popular among car enthusiasts and collectors who seek unique models or versions of cars that may not be ordinarily available. These imported vehicles can vary in terms of specifications, features, and performance, and they may have different parts and repair requirements compared to domestically available models.
This means that finding insurance for grey imports can be more challenging compared to insurance for standard domestically available vehicles, and the premiums for these vehicles may be higher. Grey import insurance policies and their premiums may differ from standard car policies because:
- There’s limited parts available in comparison
- Grey import cars have non-standard specifications
- Making repairs requires more specialised parts and skilled technicians
- There’s fewer insurance providers offering this policy
Despite these challenges, it’s still possible to find insurance coverage for grey imports, and we can help. Once you come a speak to us, we’ll ask you for some information and from there we’ll recommend a grey import insurance policy to fit your individual requirements and your budget.
