What is a Claim?

A claim is a formal request by a policyholder to an insurance company for payment or compensation for a covered loss or event. The insurer assesses the claim to determine eligibility and, if approved, provides payment or services as per the policy terms. Filing a claim initiates the process of receiving benefits under the insurance policy.
